Receiving God’s Grace. Sharing God’s Love. Uniting in Christ.

Our Beliefs

(these words are from the Episcopal Church of America)

We Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As constituent members of the Anglican Communion in the United States, we are descendants of and partners with the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church, and are part of the third largest group of Christians in the world.

We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world.

We have a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being; women and men serve as bishops, priests, and deacons in our church. Laypeople and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels of our church. Leadership is a gift from God, and can be expressed by all people in our church, regardless of sexual identity or orientation.

We believe that God loves you – no exceptions.

The Bible

The Bible is of extraordinary importance to Episcopal worship; during a Sunday morning service, the congregation will usually hear at least three readings from Scripture, and much of the liturgy from The Book of Common Prayer is based explicitly on the Biblical texts. According to the Catechism, “We understand the meaning of the Bible by the help of the Holy Spirit, who guides the Church in the true interpretation of the Scriptures” (p. 853-4)

The Book of Common Prayer

The Book of Common Prayer is a treasure chest full of devotional and teaching resources for individuals and congregations, but it is also the primary symbol of our unity.

Pastor Lisa

At the end of worship, I am humbled to say,

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

May the Lord’s face shine on you with grace and mercy.

May the Lord look upon you with favor and give you ☩ peace.

“May the Lord’s face shine on you with grace and mercy” is what rings in my ears when I look at my reflection in the mirror. Often, I ask myself does my actions and words reflect the grace and mercy of who God is in my daily living?

If you believe in something greater than yourself, a higher power or whatever name comes to help you understand your place in this universe, then you tend to see the world through this reflection of yourself. We interpret other people’s actions or events that happen to us based on how we see ourselves in and through God’s eyes. The Holy inspired writers of the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) shared this deep wisdom in Proverb 27, “Just as water reflects the face, so one human heart reflects another.”

God loves you and promises to be with you in all times and circumstances.  God will not abandon you.  God loves you so much that God took on human flesh in the form of Jesus Christ who died for you and your sins.  God sends the Holy Spirit to help and guide you along your life journey.

If you believe just an ounce of this eternal love poured out FOR YOU (plural you), then may God’s face shine through you as a reflection in your actions and words.

May Christ’s peace be with you,

Pastor Lisa
